At La Calma
We believe the finest spirits begin with people, land, time, and restraint. We are building a long-term home in Korea for agave spirits made with integrity—spirits with a clear origin, a named maker, and a story worth preserving.
We do not pursue breadth for its own sake. We choose carefully, introduce thoughtfully, and build patiently through education, hospitality, and lasting relationships. Our purpose is not simply to place bottles in a market, but to help the right producers become understood, respected, and chosen again.

Our Journey
Built through brands, hospitality, and culture
Our journey in Korea’s food and beverage industry began with Brooklyn Brewery. As part of the small Korean team that brought the celebrated New York craft brewery into Korea, we negotiated directly with its principals and helped structure the joint venture that became Jeju Beer—the first Korean craft brewery to be listed on the KOSDAQ market.
We subsequently founded Sushi Hoshikai, Jeju’s first premium omakase house, which came to be recognised among Korea’s leading fine-dining sushi restaurants. We later acquired and managed Gajok Hoegwan, founded in 1979 and widely regarded as one of Korea’s defining Jeonju bibimbap houses, preserving its culinary lineage while successfully expanding the brand into Incheon International Airport and major department stores.
Our work later expanded beyond food and beverage into the intersection of dining, design, and culture. In collaboration with the globally renowned British designer Tom Dixon and Samsung Fashion, we launched Korea’s first Tom Dixon Café—a pioneering concept that generated significant industry attention and helped establish a new benchmark for design-led hospitality in Korea.

What this experience means
More than distribution — these experiences taught us that lasting brands are not built by exposure alone. They are built when provenance is protected, the market is educated, and every point of contact—from the first introduction to the final service—reflects the standards of the maker.
How we work
Producer first. We begin with the people who make the spirit, the land they work, and the methods they have chosen to preserve.
Education before volume. We would rather build genuine understanding among serious bartenders, restaurateurs, retailers, and collectors than pursue early scale without conviction.
Selective by design. We are not building a catalogue of interchangeable labels. Every house must earn its place through provenance, quality, and a distinct reason to exist in Korea.
Long-term stewardship. A producer relationship is not a transaction. It is a responsibility to represent the maker accurately and to build value without diminishing the brand.
Why Agave
Patience can be tasted. Agave is measured in years before it is measured in bottles. It carries the imprint of soil, altitude, weather, cultivation, cooking, fermentation, distillation, and human judgement. At its best, agave spirit is not merely a commercial category. It is an agricultural and cultural record. LA CALMA exists to bring that record to Korea with clarity, respect, and patience.
